Before we get to the Sweet Sixteen matchups, let’s quickly review the Round of 32 voting from the Pixar and Modern Regions.

Pixar Region Round of 32 Recap

Nothing surprising about this result. Toy Story remains the odds on favorite to win this region and easily advances to the Sweet 16.

A tight, tight matchup between the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds goes the way of the (slight) underdog. Wall-E moves on to the Sweet 16.

Toy Story 3 picks up the second biggest upset of the Round of 32 with a victory over Monsters Inc. With the win, Pixar’s headline movie franchise now has two movies advancing to the Sweet 16.

Another easy victory for a high seed with No. 2 Finding Nemo making quick work of Cars to advance.

Modern Region Round of 32 Recap

Another top seed easily moves on to the Sweet 16 with Frozen rolling over Planes in their Round of 32 matchup.

Wreck it Ralph pulls off the minor upset over Tangled to book a spot in the Sweet 16. With the victory, three No. 5 seeds have advanced to the Sweet 16.

Still living the good life in Hawaii, Lilo and her alien partner Stitch have advanced to the Sweet 16 with a comfortable victory over Big Hero 6.

The final Sweet 16 spot goes to Moana in a runaway as she shuts out Kuzco and friends in their Round of 32 meeting.

Disney Bracket: Round of 32, Pixar & Modern Region

Screen Shot 2018-04-26 at 3.14.16 PM.png

Voting on the first set of Round of 32 matchups came to a close on Thursday afternoon and four movies from the Golden and Classic Regions advanced to the Sweet 16.

Next on the schedule in the Round of 32 is the Pixar and Modern Regions. Like the two regions prior, the four winners from each will advance to the Sweet 16 beginning next week.

Before we get to the next set of Round of 32 matchups, let’s quickly review the voting from the Golden and Class Regions.

Golden Region Round of 32 Recap

Another easy win for the top seeded The Lion King who took home 100% of the votes against Tarzan in the second round.

Our first of princesses in this region goes to Ariel as The Little Mermaid advances with a comfortable win over fellow princess Pocahontas.

Our second princess matchup ends with Belle knocking out Mulan for a spot in the Sweet 16.

Wrapping up the Round of 32 in the Golden Region is Aladdin flying past Hercules on his magic carpet for a spot in the next round of voting.

Here’s a glimpse of the Golden Region after the Round of 32:

Screen Shot 2018-04-26 at 3.13.19 PM.png

Classic Region Round of 32 Recap

Perhaps a little tighter than some expected but Snow White and her band of seven dwarfs overcame Peter Pan to move on.

Tough to call a five seed knocking off a four seed an upset but that’s exactly what The Jungle Book did in knocking off Fantasia to survive and advance.

We have a true cinderella story in the making now as 14 seeded 101 Dalmatians continue to shock the world with a dominating performance over Pinocchio to claim a spot in the Sweet 16.

There will not be a cinderella story for the actual Cinderella as she fell in the Round of 32 at the hands of The Lady and the Tramp. This sets up an all dog matchup in the Sweet 16.

Disney Bracket: Round of 32, Golden & Classic Region

Screen Shot 2018-04-24 at 5.50.31 PM

Voting on the Modern Region came to a close on Tuesday afternoon and eight lucky winners advanced to the next round.

With the Modern Region wrapping up its first round, that means we are now moving on to the Round of 32. First on the docket will be the Golden Region and the Classic Region. For this round, we will be voting on two regions at the same time.

Before we get to the Round of 32 matchups in the Golden and Classic Regions, let’s quickly review the voting from the Pixar Region.

Modern Region First Round Recap

No shock here as top seeded Frozen easily advanced to the next round, shutting out its competition in the process. With Frozen’s victory, it means all four top seeds advanced. Sorry, Virginia.

Planes was technically the lower seed in this matchup but it’s not a huge upset when a 9 knocks off an 8. Planes will have to navigate some wintry weather if they hope to keep advancing.

The beloved Pooh held a lead in this matchup until the waning hours where Tangled pulled off the comeback and survived an upset bid to reach the next round.

Incredibly, we made it through the entire first round with no upsets on the 5/12 line. Wreck it Ralph takes out Jack Skellington for a spot in the Round of 32.

Chalk continues to roll in this region with Big Hero 6 collecting enough votes to overcome a strong challenge from Princess and the Frog.

All dogs are good but Bolt was not quite good enough to overcome the adorable alien Stitch who advances.

Not even the great Charles Dickens was good enough to push his timeless Christmas tale past the Emperor and his new groove.

Moana could easily make an argument for a one seed but she had to settle for a two. Chicken Little pulled some votes but when the whistle blew the sky came crashing down around him and Moana moves on.

Here’s a glimpse of the Modern Region after its first round of voting:

Disney Bracket: First Round, Modern Region

Screen Shot 2018-04-19 at 6.40.37 PM.png

Voting on the Pixar Region came to a close on Thursday afternoon and eight lucky winners advanced to the next round but once again a tiebreaker was needed to settle one of the matchups

Now we continue are first round voting with the Modern Region that includes the likes of Frozen, Moana, Zootopia, and so many more Disney favorites that have captured our hearts in recent years.

Before we get to the matchups in the Modern Region, let’s quickly review the voting from the Pixar Region.

Pixar Region First Round Recap

No surprises here as the original Toy Story easily won over its own sequel by a comfortable margin. The 1995 instant classic put Pixar on the map and is the heavy favorite to win the region.

Two of the more recent Pixar films met in this 8 vs. 9 matchup but the results were not as close as the seeding may seem. Inside Out pulled away and will advance to the Round of 32.

Another lopsided result in the Pixar region sees Monsters Inc. move to the next round with a comfortable victory over Ratatouille.

There was argument that Coco may have been underseeded but being the newest of the Pixar movies held it back against the other longstanding classics. A tough match up in the first round sees Wall-E advance.

Finding Dory was another Pixar movie held back due to its recent release but fared much better than Coco. In the end, it was Toy Story 3 pulling out the victory by a nose over the lovable Dory.

Up! has one of the best stories of all the Pixar movies and that proved enough to lift it past Monsters University which is a strong sequel in its own right.

We mentioned this in the lede but here is proof that we once again have a tie in the voting for the second straight region. There was no separating Cars and The Incredibles during the allotted time so we had to send it to a tiebreaker.

For this region, we designated friend of the blog and Disney superfan Megan Bennett to be the deciding vote.

Her decision:

There you have it. Megan has cast her deciding vote for Cars, who will advance to the Round of 32.

Rounding out the first round in the Pixar region was Finding Nemo winning in a rout against Bug’s Life. Through three regions of voting, this was the first shutout where one movie claimed all the votes.

Disney Bracket: First Round, Pixar Region

Voting on the Classic Region came to a close on Tuesday afternoon and eight lucky winners advanced to the next round but not without a tiebreaker being needed and one huge upset.

Now we continue are first round voting with the Pixar Region that includes the likes of Toy Story, Wall-E, Cars, and so many more animated favorites that have captured our hearts throughout the years.

Before we get to the matchups in the Classic Region, let’s quickly review the voting from the Golden Region.

Classic Region First Round Recap

Another number one seed advances as Snow White and her band of seven dwarfs pushed past a litter of Aristocats to move on to the Round of 32.

Our very first tie comes between Mary Poppins and Peter Pan in an 8 v. 9 matchup which means we deferred the tiebreaking decision to friend of the blog Craig Bennett who Shawn and Robbie designated the official tiebreaker before voting started.

There you have it. Craig cast the deciding vote in favor of Peter Pan who will move on to face Snow White in the next round.

Continuing along, Fantasia squeaked past Alice in Wonderland for a spot in the next round of voting.

Another close call in a 5 v. 12 matchup but Jungle Book claimed the victory right at the wire to advance and set up a showdown with Fantasia.

Everyone’s favorite puppet boy Pinocchio fended off stiff competition from a potentially underseeded Fox and the Hound to claim a victory and advance to the next round.

Our first true upset of the tournament came courtesy of a 14 seed knocking off a 3 seed in a blowout. 101 Dalmatians ran poor Bambi off the court in this matchup and gives us a true cinderella story going forward.

Speaking of cinderellas, the actual Cinderella dropped the hammer on fellow Disney Princess Sleeping Beauty for an easy victory and a spot in the Round of 32.

Wrapping up the Classic Region first round of voting was another comfortable victory for a high seed. Lady and the Tramp trampled all over Robin Hood to set up a date with Cinderella in the next round.

Disney Bracket: First Round, Classic Region

Screen Shot 2018-04-15 at 11.22.10 PM

Voting on the Golden Region came to a close on Friday and eight lucky winners advanced to the next round. Now we continue are first round voting with the Classic region including Disney favorites such as Snow White and Bambi. The amount of great movies in this region made it incredibly difficult to seed the movies in a fair manner.

Before we get to the matchups in the Classic Region, let’s quickly review the voting from the Golden Region.

Golden Region First Round Recap

Not much of a shock here. The Lion King is one of the favorites to win the entire tournament and it had no issue easily dispatching the 16 seed Mighty Ducks in the opening round.

Our closest matchup of the first round went the way of Tarzan by a single vote over the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Seeded at 9, Tarzan pulled off the only upset in this region but it was very minor.

Dominating performance from Ariel and the rest of the of The Little Mermaid cast over Rescuers Down Under. This was easily the largest victory in terms of vote difference in this round.

If you’re a 5 seed in any tournament you should always be on upset watch and Pocahontas was nearly the latest victim. Tigger came out guns blazing but as the tie wore on, the experienced and beloved classic eventually took control and advanced.

Another 1990’s classic fought off a tough opponent and survived the opening round. Mulan controlled the voting for most of the meeting and her popularity just became too much. Mushu provided some insurance off the bench.

All dogs are good but not good enough to pull off an upset over fan favorite Beauty and the Beast in the first round. Another classic showed up big time with a strong performance, taking home over 80% of the vote.

If one matchup had upset written all over it, it was this one but in the end Hercules summoned enough strength to move on. Goofy is one of the most recognizable Disney characters but his more modern self couldn’t garner enough votes.

Tying The Little Mermaid for largest margin of victory in this opening round was two seeded Aladdin who cleaned up shop against Fantasia 2000 for an easy win and a spot in the next round of voting.

Here’s a glimpse of the Golden Region after the first round:

Disney Bracket: First Round, Golden Region

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 1.37.09 AM

Welcome back, everyone. Voting has concluded on the play-in games and now it is time to begin voting on the full bracket. We will be starting in the Golden Region with the first round matchups, but before we get started, let’s recap the play-in round.

Play-in Round Recap

There were four play-in matchups, one from each region. The two movies squaring off were listed as seeds 16a and 16b. The winner from each matchup advanced to play the No.1 seed in their respective region.

Here are the results:

Golden Region

Mighty Ducks was the only film with no animation to make the field and it survived the play-in against The Great Mouse Detective. Their reward will be going up against The Lion King in the first round.

Classic Region

Angela Lansbury was not enough to push Bedknobs and Broomsticks past The Aristocats who come out on top and will attempt to pull an upset on top seeded Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Pixar Region

Perhaps a closer result than anything expected but Toy Story 2 racked up enough votes to move past Cars 3 and into the full bracket. They’ll go up against their prequel Toy Story in the next round of voting.

Modern Region

Wrapping up the play-in games was Treasure Planet coming from behind to knock-off Atlantis and progress to take on No. 1 Frozen in the first round.

Best of luck to all the play-in winners in the next round. You’re facing quite the task if you wish to continue on.

Now that we have sufficiently recapped the play-in round and the full field of 64 movies is set, we can begin the voting to determine the true Disney movie champion.

First round voting will begin with the top overall region, Golden, where top seeded The Lion King is the odds on favorite to win the region. After that, we will move clockwise around the bracket until all first round voting has come to a close. We will then progress on to the second round following the same formula.

All voting will be conducted via polls posted to our Twitter account which you can find right here. Polls will be open for 24 hours.

Let’s begin.
